What Can I Do for Lung Cancer Awareness Month (LCAM) 2019

Many lung cancer advocates ask the question, “What can I do to promote lung cancer awareness”, here are some simple ideas.

One of the most important ideas is to support the ALK Positive More Research = More Life Fundraising effort with GO2 Lung Cancer Foundation to fund a joint research project on drug combinations to lower rates of resistance and increase ALK Positive rates of survival. It is simple, create a Fundraising page and share on your social media, and with your family, friends. Every dollar matters!

Several ALK Positive members created a Lung Cancer Awareness Month photo campaign, using actual ALK Positive Survivors, to educate the public and medical communities that “anyone with lungs can get lung cancer”. The campaign is specifically designed to educate that non-smokers can be diagnosed with lung cancer. The emphasis is on education and to address the delays in diagnosis and treatment of non-smokers with lung cancer since public education does not. We are not advocating that non-smokers should receive more empathy, but rather to educate the public about the reality of lung cancer today. This campaign is being featured on our public ALK Positive Outreach Facebook Page, you can share or download the photos, and create your own awareness posts to raise awareness.

We highly suggest each member contact your local newspaper, news stations, and cancer centers and start a conversation about lung cancer awareness month. Ask what are they doing for LCAM and if they are interested in sharing your story.

Public education and funding research for lung cancer is up to us!
